History

Beginning December 1944, The German High Command planned a bold battle plan to punch through and split the Allied forces in Belgium The main objective was to capture
Antwerp forcing the Allies to with draw and call for peace. The main objective of Antwerp was the goal of the German 6th SS Panzer Army. The 5th Panzer army's objective was
to capture brussels and push on into Antwerp with the combined efforts of the 6th SS Panzer Amy. Other German units took part in the Battle but were mainly ineffective
for the push against Antwerp.
The Focal point of this Battle of the Bulge will be the 5th Panzer Armies advance to Brussels with the main objective and battle being contained around Bastogne.
The Allied Defense of Bastogne and the surrounding forest was held by the 101st Para. Behind the Allied lines, supplies were low, ammunition was scarce and worse yet many US soldeirs lacked
winter clothing, food and medical equipment.
After Bastogne was encircled the German advance began to falter. Once the famouse answer "NUTS!!" was received by the German Commander from the US 101st Para Commander moral seemed
to bolster amongst the troops and the US forces held out until reiforcments arrived.
